Gas Mask

I did a study today for a painting I want to start. It's going to involve gas masks obviously, and I'm thinking it might be some kind of weird self portrait. But I want to include nudes, which might make people feel weird (including me) if they knew it was a self portrait. We'll see, but I'm liking the gas mask thing.

The thumbnail sketch on the right says, "I wish I could explain... ...or even understand."
I guess the viewer can try to figure it out.

A glance and the last two semesters

Here are some things I've done in the last two semesters. I got a little swamped with things and didn't have the time to photograph much of my work. So the other day, since I'm on break now, I decided to take some time. This is just a little bit, but there is more on my Deviant Art account.

This is a woodcut with a mono-type print underneath. It's probably about 18X24 in. This print is of a frilled shark. They're really creepy, and I didn't even know they existed until I made this print. They're prehistoric!

This is a reduction woodcut of a zombie woman and her zombie dog. 18X24 in. This was really fun to do, and I got a lot of people laughing in the print lab as I was working on it.

Self portrait from my first figure painting class. I think this was my midterm project (or somewhere around the middle of the semester). I really enjoyed this painting. Even though I made myself look a little awkward and masculine, I really like the way it turned out. I discovered working on this that I have a weird idea of how I look that I don't think is accurate. Anyway, my favorite part of it is the color. And here's a detail of that...

This painting wasn't supposed to be such a limited palette, but this was the day we had to evacuate the school during our second session working on it because there was a bomb threat. It turned out to be nothing, so when we got back to school I tried to hurry up and get it close enough to finished. I managed to articulate most of his skin tones, but everything else I just rushed through.

NEW!

This is my new blog for art fart. I've been wanting to do something like this. I'm going to link to my Deviant Art account so anyone can see my work in an archive, but I also want to be able to post work and blog about it as it happens. I hope I can keep up. I'm also going to try to post my sketchbook. Here's some now!

Here's a sketch I did of Josh today at his extended family's Christmas gathering. I was bored, and he has a cool profile.

A drawing done from a photo I found in National Geographic. It's a fish in a droplet of water. I thought it looked weird and had really cool abstract shapes to it.
